Sawtooth Ledges and Baggy 18th May 2025

Waves Shape

3 club members and one guest diver ventured out of Westbay today, with Andy being our dedicated cox for the day.

The sea was lovely and flat, nice sunny day, a great day to be club diving.

The first site was Sawtooth Ledges.

This reef has a very jagged appearance, with deep gullies and sandy seabed. Depth range 20-28 m.

Mick and guest diver Harry went in first. There was some concern on whether the bloom was affecting visibility, with no DSMB up early, the viz was ok, and Jake and Rob kitted up. On descending, Rob had large volumes of water entering his suit and snorted, spending the rest of the day freezing and very wet.

Visibility reported around 4-5m.

Second dive, due to a group of 3 diving, plans were changed and a trip to the Baggy.

The Baygitano is/was a steam-powered collier built in 1905 and 99 meter long. Like the Alisa Craig she was torpedoed towards the end of the First World War. Today it remains lay scattered at a depth of about 20 meters..

Visibility again 4-5m when you could see past the fish.
